BT Call Centre Redevelopment, Warrington

The Scale: 90+ Unit Major Infrastructure Redevelopment

In one of our most expansive projects to date, MCR Cooling & Refrigeration Ltd spearheaded the total HVAC redevelopment of a large-scale, two-storey facility in Warrington. Transforming an aging structure into a state-of-the-art, high-occupancy call centre, we managed the installation of over 90 indoor units to ensure total climate stability for hundreds of staff members.

Phase 1: High-Capacity VRV System Design

Designing for a call centre environment requires a sophisticated approach to load balancing, as high-density seating creates significant internal heat gains. We engineered a massive network of 10 independent VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume) systems to provide simultaneous heating and cooling across both floors.

  • Multi-Zone Environmental Control: The 10-system configuration allows for precise temperature management in different zones, ensuring comfort in both open-plan call floors and private meeting rooms.
  • Mission-Critical Reliability: By utilising independent VRV circuits, we provided the client with built-in redundancy, ensuring that the facility maintains operational continuity even during routine maintenance.
  • Industrial-Grade Specification: We specified high-efficiency hardware designed for continuous 24/7 operation, meeting the rigorous demands of a modern telecommunications hub.

Phase 2: Technical Infrastructure & First-Fix

The complexity of routing services for 90+ indoor units across two floors demanded the high-level technical authority that our senior engineers provide. We prioritised clean, architectural service runs to ensure the building’s infrastructure remains robust and accessible.

  • Architectural Service Routing: Hundreds of metres of refrigerant pipework and communication cabling were professionally routed through the building’s fabric, following strictly parallel lines to avoid a “hashed” finish.
  • Precision Ceiling Suspensions: Each indoor unit was secured using reinforced threaded rod suspensions, ensuring perfectly level and vibration-free mounting within the new suspended ceiling systems.
  • Advanced Condensate Management: We engineered a comprehensive drainage network to safely manage moisture removal from all 90+ units, protecting the newly refurbished interior.

Phase 3: Precision Commissioning & Performance Testing

The project concluded with an intensive commissioning phase. As recovery specialists, we utilize advanced diagnostics to ensure that high-volume installations operate at the same peak efficiency as a single-unit build.

  • Digital System Calibration: Our engineers used high-precision digital manifolds to calibrate the refrigerant charge for all 10 VRV systems, optimizing the Coefficient of Performance (COP) across the entire network.
  • Nitrogen Pressure Verification: Every circuit underwent rigorous oxygen-free nitrogen pressure testing to guarantee a 100% leak-free, hermetically sealed installation.
  • Full-Scale Operational Handover: After a successful performance test run, we delivered a “stunning” climate control solution that provides heating in the winter and cooling in the summer, perfectly suited for Warrington’s newest flagship call centre.
